How to avoid fake government job offers
People who are preparing for government exams are a common target for fake job offers. A few simple checks protect your money and your documents.
Warning signs
- Someone promises a job, a guaranteed selection or a "seat" in return for money. Recruitment boards do not sell jobs.
- You are asked to pay to a personal bank account, a UPI number or a wallet instead of the official application portal.
- The offer arrives only through WhatsApp, Telegram or a phone call, and there is pressure to pay quickly.
- The website address looks almost like an official one but is slightly different.
- You are asked for your OTP, card PIN or bank password. No real recruiter needs these.
How to check a notice
- Find the official notification PDF and match the advertisement number and the dates.
- Open the recruiting board's website by typing the address yourself. Do not use a link from a message.
- Use the helpline or email printed in the official notification to confirm the vacancy.
- Apply only on the official portal, and pay only the application fee shown there.
If you have already paid
- Stop sending money and keep screenshots, receipts and chat messages.
- Call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as you can.
- Tell your bank at once so it can try to stop the payment.
